Ramblings on life as I attempt to grasp a better understanding of God and how He is connected with It.

Do Australians or "Those Other" Americans feel LEFT OUT?

My fellow (North?) Americans:

Often times I wonder that when it comes to maps, the norm is always to view [what we call] North as being "up." Who made the call to say that: North is up, and all maps will always view things at the top that are North of all other locations

Why is it that Antarctica always has to be on the bottom? Why is it that poor Australia and South America are always down below the "real world?"

My Favorite Movies

I Like Movies...

Just in case you were wondering, I've compiled my "Top Ten" movie list. Counting down to my favorite, the order is:

10. Signs
I am a huge M. Knight S. fan. Signs barely beats out Unbreakable, but it is such an outstanding film. Few movies have given me chills like the moment that Mel Gibson finally sees the whole picture, and finally understands "swing away." Now, most of the other films that have given me chills are listed below.
Favorite Scene: "Swing Away."

9. Star Wars.
The saga in its entirety is outstanding. If I "had" to narrow this pick down to (technically) one movie, I would have to pick Episode III. Sorry if you're one of those fans who feels that Episodes I, II and III don't compare to the originals, but this final installment was a masterpiece.
Favorite Scene: "Can I learn these powers?" | "...not from a Jedi."

8. Cinderella Man
This film has inspired me to love my wife and family, and to fight to be a man of integrity. I love the values instilled in this film, and the manner in which Russell Crowe fights for his family. Also, his dependence on his wife is a beautiful picture of the way that I am connected to Deonna. We are together, or we are nothing.
Favorite Scene: When Russell Crowe gets his mouth guard knocked out, but he doesn't hit the floor.

7. V For Vendetta
Just an awesome film. I loved the action, the anticipation for the fifth of November, and the dialogue.
Favorite Scene: The Domino Rally.

6. The Lord of the Rings
Same thing with Star Wars. There is no better Movie Trilogy than The Lord of the Rings. If I had to pick one of the three films, I would probably say The Return of the King.
Favorite Scene: " 'Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee, don't you leave him.' And I don't mean to."

5. Gladiator
Now we're into my Top Five. These films are all outstanding. The plot line of Gladiator is just awesome. His determination and passion make such an incredible story.
Favorite Scene: "The frost, sometimes it makes the blade stick."

4. The Shawshank Redemption
Tim Robbins is great in this film, and I love the "realness" of the movie. It is a tragedy, filled with hope. This is my movie that anytime I start it, or anytime I flip through the channels and it's on, no matter what else is going on, I have to stay until the end.
Favorite Scene: "Everybody's in on it... even her..."

3. The Matrix
The original just blew me away. Clearly the greatest Science Fiction film ever made.
Favorite Scene: "I Knew it. He's the one."
[Close Second: "Not like 'dis... not like 'dis."]

2. Braveheart
However cliché this movie has become, it will forever be "The Movie" for men.
Favorite Scene: Mel Gibson haunting the guy's dream before he bursts in to his bedchamber.

1. The Truman Show
There you have it. My favorite film. I love this movie because it is unique, never gets old, and portrays a desperate search for the Truth.
Favorite Scene: "Who you talking to? What does this have to do with anything?"

A Meeting in the Meadow

With this entry, I hope to begin a (possible) series of fictional debates between two characters, Mr. Jevius and Sir Smith-Cotton. As a disclaimer: my own belief and my own faith align with Mr. Jevius. The purpose of this entry is simply to create a debate, with influences from similar conversations/debates I have experienced in the past.

I affirm the Holy Trinity, and I denounce the theory of evolution. Furthermore, I affirm that the Doctrine of the Holy Trinity is fully supported by the Biblical Text and is necessary in understanding the Greatness and Holiness of God. Our Triune God fully makes creation, redemption and glorification a reality. Likewise, I denounce that the theory of evolution is supported by the Biblical Text and it merely is a modern scientific marvel that distorts and threatens the truth of the Bible.

And So We Begin:

Mr. Jevius| I know we have discussed and debated numerous issues in the past, but I desire to speak still on a most controversial topic, quite plainly: evolution.

Sir Smith-Cotton| Indeed. This is one of my favorite topics and would be delighted to entertain.

Mr. Jevius| Most pleasant. Now, we both know of where the other stands on this case. Though I disagree with your stance, kind sir, I can understand how you arrive at your conclusion. But this primarily is my first point of dismissal. I very much agree that your position can be viewed as "reasonable," but I find, in the acceptance of such a stance that there is nothing supportive of such a claim found in the Word of God. And therein lies my problem. Should someone take up the Word of God with no previous knowledge, be it scientific or otherwise, there is not one instance in a thousand when that man would conclude that the Lord had brought about existence as we know it today through the method of evolution.

Sir Smith-Cotton| On the contrary, my friend, how many in that same thousand would pick up the Word of God for the first time, and having no previous knowledge—be it tradition or the like—after a thorough reading come away with the conclusion that God exists eternally in three persons? As you can see, the criticism that you hold against my stance is profitable also to accuse your own stance.

Mr. Jevius | However, there indeed are a great many verses in the text that clearly express a God of Triunity—

Sir Smith-Cotton | Rubbish! You have only the conjectures of men past to come to that stance. Certainly there are verses that speak of a "Father" God, and this Jesus "Son" God, and also "Spirit" God; but numerous other passages speak of there being only one God. If it is so simple for you to deny the truth of evolution yet so easily hold to the stretch of a Triune God, then I say that your mind is not brought to conclusions by your reason and thought but only sweet influence of the past. And thus, through mine own reason and thought, and a great deal of study, have I concluded while studying the Word of God as well as many other important works, that evolution is the truth of our current state of being. This said, even with the firm faith that the God of the Bible is alive and active in our lives today.

The Riddle Of Riddles

You're on a path which just so happens to come to a fork. You know that one way leads to death and one way leads to life, but you have no idea which way is which. It also just so happens that at this fork, there stands a set of twins—one of which ALWAYS lies and one of which ALWAYS tells the truth. They are, however, identical twins and there is no feasible way to know which one is which. You are allowed one, and only one question to ask, which both of the twins will answer. From their responses you must choose which path to take...

What is your question?

Freelance Graphic Artist At Large

I love all this web stuff. My summer classes (Hebrew 3 and 4...) have managed to suck up most of my time this summer, when I could have been blogging. Deonna and I have been struggling a little financially this year, and it would just be awesome if we could bring in some more income.

Eureka!

Long have I tossed around the thought of being a "freelance graphic designer," and these last few days I have taken a step forward in that direction. Proud of myself. I figure I have a college degree in Visual Communications, and I have completed two church sign designs which I've worked on while in school, and while keeping 20 hours a week at HPT. So, if I ever get the opportunity to do some graphics work on the side, that would be splendid. I could take a break from some of these exegetical papers on Ruth.

Thus, I have created a website to promote k.reed•graphics, my endeavor at beginning some freelance work as a graphic artist. Design has been a hobby of mine for a while now, and I thought doing something like this might give me some more opportunity to fine tune my talents. It took me a while to find a provider where I could create and display my very own website without paying a penny, but after a couple days search, I found one. Which really just means that for my website's url I've got some random phrase like, "synthasite." But hey, that's pretty much the Bomb for all I care.

Anyway, check out my website:  http://kreeddesign.synthasite.com/
